KINKS KOVERS PROJECTS
In 1997
members of the mailing list "The Kinks Preservation Society" made a
cassette with Kinks covers
called "The Kover Kontroversy". The project was organized by Paul
Wykes, the master tape engineering
was done by Joe LaRose and the insert was created by Jim Smart.
In 1999 a
second cover-project was released: the CD "Do it again / The Kover
Kontroversy Kontinues"
In 2000 a
third cover-project was released (info to come)
In 2007 a
fourth cover-project will be released, this time with songs (co)written by Dave
Davies!

KINK IN DE KABEL
Whenever I'm doing Kinks-songs in Dutch, I'm always using the name
"Kink in de Kabel".
The Dutch expression "Er zit een kink in de kabel" means
"There's a hitch somewhere".
So far there are 2 Kink in de Kabel-songs: Zeer exclusief herenhuis te koop and Je vroege jeugd.

On the 2nd cover-project I've contributed with a Dutch version of
"Most exclusive residence for sale".
The song was recorded on the 21st of April 1997 at the ceiling/studio of Dutch fan
Henny Stahli on 7 tracks:
acoustic guitar, bass guitar, electric guitar, lead vocals, 2nd electric guitar
at the end, 2nd leadvocals
in the refrains, backing vocals (pa papa pa). We weren't that satisfied with
the first leadvocals
(Have you ever tried to sing at speaking level, so very quiet, or with a
headphone on? Well, I hadn't!)
so we re-recorded them. Although Henny probably wasn't that satisfied with the
2nd attempt either
(he sent me two versions: one WITH leadvocals, one WITHOUT; to practice!), I
am!
Something to treasure: my first "professional" recording and the
debut of "Kink in de kabel".

On the 4th cover-project I'm not on my own (like on the 2nd project) but
accompanied by Siem van den Bergh and Dick van Veelen,
two other members of the Dutch foundation The Kinks Preservation Society.
Je vroege jeugd (= Your early youth) is our Dutch
pub-version of Fortis Green, according to us the Dave
Davies-composition that captures the Kinks-feeling the best.
Our Dave-tribute was recorded in my "records room" on a
4-track cassette-recorder:
track 1 acoustic guitar (Dick) and track 2 electric guitar (Rob) were recorded
on dec. 29, 2006.
track 3 bass guitar (Rob) was recorded on jan. 3, 2007.
track 4 all vocals (see below), mouth harp (Dick), pat on the cheek (Dick) and
flask-opener (Siem) recorded on jan. 25, 2007.

Siem: lead vocals (first couplet), backing vocals ("La la
la", chorus [high voice]), voice over ("The Kinks!" and "Dat was
't. Biertje?")
Dick: lead vocals (second couplet), backing vocals ("La la la",
